Childhood Bereavement and Depression in Adult Neuroses

Abstract
|
|
|
In order to study the correlation between childhood bereavement and adult depression, 51 neurotic patients, who visited at the Department of Neuropsychiatry, Chonnam University, Medical School from July to December 1979, were studied by Beck¢¥s Depression Inventory.
The results were as follows
1. The subjects were 51 neurotics, male 34, female 17, mean age 31. 8 years and mean education 10.7 years.
2. The subtypes of neuroses were anxiety neurosis 25(49.0%), depressive neurosis 907.7%) and other neurosis 7(13.60/¢¥0)
3. In the group of bereavement before age 16, 57.2% of patients were in the high-depressed, but the group of bereavement after age 17 and of no bereavement were in the medium-depressed, 56.3%,0 and 42.9% respectively.
4. In the high-depressed, 20% of the patients reported bereavement before age 16.
